Succumb to beautiful Bali, that riveting island of the gods, a palette
of cultural hues.
Kampung Party
Discover, with a skip of your heart, the old-world charm of kampung
life. Sun-kissed young maidens sashay by your side as they escort
you through a traditional Balinese hamlet. Muted sounds of the gamelan
spiral up the gravel track. Elsewhere, a banjar meeting draws to
a gentle pause. In someone's front yard, villagers are bristling
with the anticipation of a cockfight. Then, the aromatic scent of
roast suckling pig, barbecued lamb, grilled prawns and fried noodles
comes over you like a spasm, and you yield to it with pleasure.
Pasar Malam
The moon's yellow pool o f radiance spotlights the thriving clamour
of the night market. Here and there, a kerosene lamp gyrates idly
in the balmy breeze; palm fronds unburden their weight of emerald
onto rustic bamboo stalks. Colour, confusion, hilarity are a vivid
seasoning to succulent grilled satay and other local fare.
Royal Rajalaya
A ceremonial procession of Balinese ladies emblazoned with multi-tiered
offering meanders its way past windswept rice fields. The backdrop
is banked with regal statues of Balinese gods. Feast like royalty
against an ambience of drama and dance, and the hallowed splendour
of the Mengwi Temple. Dinner is rijstaffel, a spread of delicately
spiced Indonesian dishes in its truly majestic tradition.
Rustic Bali
Fountaining palms fan your imagination, your dream of retiring to
a life of pastoral simplicity. Farm animals graze and loll about
contentedly in grassy meadows. While the beat of the beleganjur
percussion procession slowly filters through your senses, dancers
pound your sight with vibrant moves of classical pageants on stages;
meanwhile, doting farm-hands treat you to a night that will forever
linger in your memory.
